Electrical Cooktops
FAULT: The cooktop will not turn on.
TRY: Check the following:
1) The fuse at the fuse box is on
2) Check the cupboards underneath or by the side of the cooktop, make sure there isn’t an electrical socket that the cooktop is plugged into, not turned on.
3) There isn’t a switch above the work surface on the wall that’s not turned on.
REMEMBER: Before doing any checks on the gas cooktops below, make sure the cooktop is cool enough to handle.
Gas Cooktops

FAULT: Cooktop will not ignite
TRY: Check the following:
1) The electrical socket in the cupboards underneath the cooktop or by the side, is plugged in and switched on.
2) Make sure the gas crowns (burner tops) are sat down correctly. (This is a very common problem)
FAULT: When the knob is released the flame goes out
TRY: Try the following:
1) Light the burner and hold the knob down for at least 15 seconds then release it. (The flame failure device (if fitted) has to have time to warm up to keep the gas on)
2) The gas crowns (burner tops) are sat down correctly. (Very common mistake)
3)The electrical socket for the cooktop is switched on and the plug is in. (This is usually found in cupboards below and to the side of the cooktop)
FAULT: The flame is not steady, or flares
TTRY: Try the following:
1) Gas crowns (burners) not sat down correctly
2) The gas crowns are blocked, Clean in hot soapy water and push a sewing needle or straightened paper clip through the holes of the crowns (burner tops) to unblock them.
