Cooking Appliances

FAULT: Oven or Stove is smoking

If the smoke is coming from the controls or the rear of the stove, then switch off the appliance immediately at the fuse box. Report this to your Real Estate Company or if it is your own appliance then please contact us. Most times smoking cooking appliances are caused by the heating elements being sprayed with cleaning products or fat/oil. Or the oven compartment is covered in grease or oil; inspect the oven compartment and if there is a build up of grease or oil then clean with a good oven cleaner. If this has not cured the problem, place a fault call with your Real Estate company or if this appliance is owned by you please contact us.

FAULT: Oven or Stove does not heat up

Does the appliance have a clock on it? If so is it showing any of the following: “00.00”, “HELP”, “0.00” or “—-“. This means the clock needs setting. The power to the oven runs through the clock and if the clock is not set then the oven will not work. If the oven has a timer on it with a symbol of a hand, then turn the knob to the hand symbol and then you will be able to use the oven. If your appliance is a stove, see if the cooktop elements (electric elements, not gas) work? If they do and the clock is set and the oven still doesn’t work, then place a service call. If your appliance has a rotary switch near the oven clock or the clock itself has options such as “Auto, Manual or Hand Symbol” make sure the rotary switch is pointing to Manual or Hand Symbol to make the oven work. If it is set to auto, off or the oven is flashing the word auto, the oven will not work. Older ovens have non digital clocks. These again have to be set right for the ovens to work. This type though are a bit easier. They usually have a start and stop button. Press the stop button in and you will be able to use the oven.
